Goshen Baptist Church traces it's beginnings back to 1787 before Lincoln County was established. It was originally called Soap Creek Church and shared a meting house with the local Methodists and Presbyterians. The church was renamed Rocky Spring in 1793. In 1816, as the number of Baptists grew, the church was renamed Goshen church and a new meeting house was built about a 1/4 miles from the current location around 1817. By 1835, the Baptist Congregation had grown to the size where they needed their own sanctuary and a new church was constructed at this location. That structure is currently the main building in the center. After the Civil War, the black members broke away and started Ebenezer Baptist Church a short distance away. Over the years the church has been expanded beginning in the 1940's and thru the early 60's. In 1976 the fellowship hall to the right was added and in 1980 the new entrance hall and steeple. The church is still quite active today.
