The Dent-Scott House in Newnan

Circa 1851
Andy Sarge

The home was built in 1851 by William Barton Wade Dent, A US Congressman who at one time owned 60,000 acres of land in the state including Stone Mountain. He died 6 years after the home was completed. One of his sons served in the Cofederacy in the Civil War and the home may have been used as a Hospital during the war. After the war the home was owned by the family's estate and in 1901 was purchased by WBW's brother -in-law. It stayed in the family until 1963.
