Concord UMC

It was founded in 1850 as Salem Methodist and is one of the earliest Methodist congregations in the area and probably the earliest in Pike County. A man named Fossett gave a plot of land about a mile west of Concord. During the Civil War, Union troops passed thru the church yard on their way to Andersonville. A Union soldier from Kentucky was ill and left in the yard to fend for himself. and the Blankenship family nursed him back to health. He and one of their daughters fell in love and were married in the church. The soldier later organized the first Sunday School in the circuit. In 1887 the railroad came to the area and Concord grew very quickly. It was decided to move Salem to the city and it was deeded land at it's present location and the church was built and remains active to this day.
