In 1827 during one of Georgia's land lotteries.William McLendon of Wilkes County got land in what is now Meriwether County in an area known as McLendon Crossroads. In 1835 he donated land for a church to be built. Some members of a church near Woodbury split off and formed Antioch Baptist Church on this land. The church has been active since and is considered the Mother Church of Greenville, Woodbury and Harris City Baptist Churches. I have not found out exactly how old the building is but it appears to be the second sanctuary on the site and built in 1875-1890 time frame. The steeple and additional structure at the rear were added within the last 50 years.
