This circa 1898 home in Milledgeville was built by Edward Hines and his wife Nellie Womack Hines. Nellie was born in Oxford Georgia in 1875 and her family moved to Covington when she was six. She was very studious and also studied music in Atlanta and Athens. Her family moved to Washington DC where she met Hines who was a law student at UVA. They moved to Milledgeville where he was from. She completed a four year degree in piano at Georgia Normal & Industrial College in 1906 and taught piano, and wrote poetry, books and music. She published multiple editions of "A Treasure Album of Milledgeville and Baldwin County" which highlighted the history of the area. She also wrote radio programs which highlighted Georgia's historical figures and buildings which were broadcast on WMAZ and WSB. If that were not enough she taught for 41 years at the college she graduated from and was a member of and chaired several local organizations. She passed away in 1963. What a life!
