Pivot Bridge

Picture taken from the Georgia side of the Savannah River in
Screven County. This is the old Pivot Bridge on the Savannah River, that would swing open to permit boat traffic to navigate the river or swing closed to permit vehicle traffic between Georgia and South Carolina. This is a exact site of Burton's Ferry that became the gateway for settlers from the Carolinas and Virginia into the newly opened lands of interior Georgia. Located on Route 73 between Sylvania, Ga. and Allendale, S.C.
