On the banks of Broad River, (Elbert County side of the river) are these old ruins. A few of the local people in that area have told me they are the ruins of an old cannonball factory that made cannonballs during/for the Civil War. I am not sure if this is true. I was told by my guide, that the man-made dug out areas were used to store the cannonballs, until shipment could be made. No evidence of cannonballs were found. It is very hard to find and the ruins have just about disappeared. It is also very dangerous because of wild boars. There are wild boar paths everywhere throughout the woods and leading down to the river. My guide kept his gun ready just in case of a chance meeting and I was fully on alert status, keeping in mind close trees in case I needed to do some climbing.
