Church in Hillsboro

Around 1800, a farmer named John Hill settled in southern Jasper County and founded a small community called Hillsboro. The First Methodist Church was built where the Baptist church is now around 1818. In 1852, the church moved across the road and under oak trees. Another new church was built around 1884 on land where the schoolhouse is now. No record exists as to why that church was moved other than land was donated in 1877. The current structure was built in 1913 across the street from where the schoolhouse is now and services are still held twice a month.
