Shiloh United Methodist Church was founded in 1856 in the small community of Burwell in Carroll County. At first they met in a small cabin a couple of miles away. The founding members named the new church Shiloh. Right after the Civil War some land was donated and some purchased that totaled over 7 acres. In 1867, New Salem Methodist dissolved and the membership moved to Shiloh and a new church was built and dedicated in 1868 and the first camp meeting was held. The congregation soon outgrew the building and in 1881 the building was donated to the community and the present church was constructed on the same site. The church is quite active today and also has a campground with annual camp meetings.
