The Tale of Two Houses

The Warner-Hill-Clark House in Greenville is the tale of two houses. The original house was constructed in 1835 by Hiram Warner, a lawyer and politician who was Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, The second home was built a few miles away by the Rev Abner Reeves Callaway. His sons, Fuller and Carson Callaway later founded Callaway Mills and Callaway Gardens. What you see here is actually two homes put together. In 1865, Warner's daughter purchased the Callaway home, dismantled and incorporated into her father's home as a second story and the double porches were added. Today, the fourth family that has owned the home and have it as their residence, has renamed it "The Parterre" and operate it as a wedding venue.
