House in Peril

This Neoclassical beauty was built in 1915 for Dr. Henry Ryan Marchman and his family. It remained in his family until 1978 when his grandson was forced to sell it due to a serious illness. Known locally as the Marchman Connallt home, for the two family names who resided there, it was purchased by the church which shared the block with the house and property. The church eventually outgrew their facilities and re-sold it to another church, who owns it today. Unfortunately, financial worries have caused the present owners to allow this grand old lady to fall into a deplorable state of disrepair. A member of the Marchman family, the lone surviving grandson of Dr. Marchman, has made several offers to purchase the house from the church, this alleviating the financial burden from them, but as of this date, he has had no response. His intentions were to gift it to the Villa Rica Area Historical Society to be used as a museum or welcome center to honor his grandfather, one of the real "horse and buggy doctors" of his day. The home sits right in the middle of the Historic District of Villa Rica in Carroll County. Many local historical elements would be lost to the community should the home deteriorate beyond saving and end up as a parking lot. Many prayers are being lifted up in behalf of this lovely, historic home, that the pastor and his congregation will have a change of heart and allow the home to be purchased back by the family who cherishes it and wants only to see it restored. It made the list of Historical places for GA in 2019 and was added to the Georgia Trust for Historic
Preservation 2014 Places in Peril.

  1. I call for this house to be demolished and all of its contents be either destroyed or sold in order to buy empty 55 gallon drums for hobo fires.
