Hopewell Presbyterian in Franklin County
After the British were defeated at Yorktown in 1781, some patriots had begun migrating to Georgia, which was very un-populated for it's size. By 1790, a group from Pennsylvania had settled in Franklin County in the area of Bold Springs. In 1796, two Pennsylvanian settlers established Hebron Presbyterian, as time went on, more land grants for Revolutionary war veterans and grants to get the former Creek lands settled brought in more settlers. Hebron grew and as it grew, members created new congregations in Franklin, Habersham, Banks and Jackson Counties. One of these is Hopewell Presbyterian. It was established in 1839 by local farmers. Never a large congregation it has survived over the last 180 years. The building is not the original building but it is on the original property. The current structure was likely built in the early 20th century. Additions were made to the front and rear and it looks like it has been rebuilt on its old bones. Located in Franklin County.
