Pine Grove United Methodist Church
Pine Grove United Methodist Church is the oldest Methodist church in Lincoln County. It was founded after a brush arbor meeting in 1796. Attending the meeting was one Lewis Parks who was an early pioneer minister in the colonial back country. Services were held in the brush arbor, which is where the cemetery is now, until 1806 when a log church was built. At that time Sunday school was initiated by Lewis Parks. Sunday school was different in the early days as there just wasn't a lot of material much in the way of material for them. There were also no public schools so the Sunday school was where people, old and young, learned to read and write.
The log church was replaced with a wooden church in 1846 on the present site. The church served as it was until it needed serious work done. In 1973, a member, Lillian Sims passed away and bequeathed funds to rebuild the church. It was stripped to the bones and rebuilt in the same place with brick and is still quite active today.
