The Cook House now Resides in Old Town, Brunswick

The house has a unique history dating back to its construction in the 1860s. It is believed the house was built during wartime occupation of South Carolina from one or more surplus government buildings. After the Civil War, the house was purchased by Cook from the Union Army and moved by barge down the Savannah River to its current ...location.
John R. Cook, along with close family and friends came to Georgia from Worcester, Massachusetts for Reconstruction. They became thriving businessmen and were well-respected and loved statesmen. Cook purchased the plot of land where the house sits for $650 in 1871 and moved the house onto the property around that time.
After sitting vacant and deteriorating for a number of years, the Cook House was purchased in 2013. The new owners have been working to renovate the old home and bring back it’s stately appearance.
