The Wingfield-Blackmon House in Washington

Circa 1786. For his service to the country as a Revolutionary War office and signer of the Declaration of Independence, George Walton was given 1150 acres on the north side of Washington. He sold this land in 1783 to John Wingfield Sr of North Carolina. He then deeded the land to his sons John Jr. and Thomas. One of them built this small house in 1786. John Jr. stayed in Washington while Thomas later settled in the southern part of the county along the Little River. The front elevation of the house is pretty much unchanged with at least one addition to the rear.
