David Ashley Jewell House in Chickamauga
The other day I erroneously posted this as the Gordon Lee Mansion in Chickamauga. I had it taken down when I realized I had it wrong. This is actually the David Ashley Jewell House in Chickamauga , circa 1913. Mr. Jewell, the son of the founder of a successful textile mill in Jewell Georgia came here in 1907 to build a mill closer to customers in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. He founded Crystal Springs Bleachery and produced bleached bag goods. Later a cotton mill was added. At it's peak it employed 1,300 people and stayed in the family until 1967. It finally closed for good in 2013 and is still in the process of demolition.
