The Barksdale House in Washington

It was originally built in 1838 as a large Salt Box style home by Francis Colley for his son Henry F and new wife Isabella. Capt. Henry F died in 1861 of wounds received at the Battle of Gaines Mill in Virginia. His widow lived in the house the remainder of her life. Her daughter married Thomas Barksdale and they bought the home in 1900 and remodeled it into a Victorian. For some reason, it was remodeled again into the Greek Revival you see here. The home remained in the Colley-Barksdale family until 2005.
