The Green Front Cafe in Stockbridge
This building was the long-time home of the Green Front Cafe in Stockbridge. The building dates from 1947 when it was built by Augustus "Rat" Sluaughter. In 1949, he sold it to his cousin Carrie Mae & her husband Hime Hambrick. The couple started the cafe and ran it for the next 50+ years. It was unique in that it served customers of all races together all through the era of segregation. After the Hambricks passed, the cafe sat empty for over a decade. In 2018, Diane & Malana Miller acquired the building and are looking to reopen it as a stop on the MLK Heritage Trail being established in Stockbridge.
