Elizabeth Lee UMC in Chickamauga

It was established in 1874 following a service under a brush arbor near where today's sanctuary stands. It was decided to build a church. Mr. James M Lee, father of church elder Tom Lee, was going to build a church for the community however, being a free mason, his lodge wanted to share a building they could both use so the first sanctuary was a joint project located just north of the present site and known as Chickamauga Methodist Church. This building stood on land donated by James M Lee. Around 1910 a new lot was purchased and that building was moved to the new lot. It proved inadequate for the growing congregation and the present lot was soon purchased and the current sanctuary (building on the right) was constructed 1913-1915. The building on the left, a Sunday School building was erected in 1940. I have not found when the church was renamed to Elizabeth Lee but it is a thriving and vibrant congregation with 6 buildings to the campus at this time.
