The Former Villanow Country Store

It was originally known as Cavender's Country Store as it was originally owned by Joseph Warren Cavender. The claim that it was opened in this building in 1840 is in dispute as he was probably not even born yet. He served in the Confederate Army and after the war was employed by the US Governent to clean up and restore areas in the Chattanooga and Chickamauga area. He used the money he made to buy a bunch of land in what is now Villanow and in addition owned a cotton mill, blacksmith shop and buggy/wagon shop. For quite a while it was the center of this part of the valley but now little remains. The old store is now a home.
