Trenton United Methodist Church in Dade County
It can trace its history all the way back to 1830 when there were still Cherokee in the area. A man named William Killian moved into the area and soon other families moved in also. At first they worshipped together in their cabins until a circuit preacher bagan leading them in prayer. The church was formally established in 1837. They continued meeting in cabins for a little while and then moved to the Cumberland Community Church which was actually deeded to the Presbyterians. Finally, in 1875 land was deeded to build their own church but it was not completed until 1883. That church burned in 1925 and this sanctuary was constructed in 1931 in a different area. Today a new sanctuary stands next door but this one is still used for special events.
