Dixie Motel

This is the former Dixie Motel in the Indian Springs Community of Catoosa County. It's actually an office with a few tourist cabins behind it. Built in 1940, it was a place to stop and rest for a night or two, These sprang up all over the country as the highway system developed. Many survived for quite a while. As the interstate system became the primary way to travel by car, many of these closed or hung on as long as they could. Some were demolished, some were converted to rental homes. This one closed fairly recently, unfortunately due to criminal activity.
