Middleton Methodist Church in Elbert County
In 1873, this small community in Elbert County had no place of worship. It was a community of tenant farmers who worked the land for large landowners which surrounded the crossroads. The leading men of the community wanted a church and Reverend J.H. Grogan gave two acres of land for a church and cemetery and the present building was constructed and named Eureka Methodist Church after Rev. Grogan's farm. In the late 1880s, the railroad was constructed thru Elbert County and desired to build a station here, so the leaders got together and named the town Middleton and subsequently renamed the church Middleton Methodist Church. The community is just a small collection of houses and the church today.
