Shady Grove Baptist Church in Forsyth County
It was constituted in May 1838 in what was then a remote part of northeast Forsyth County. There were 6 charter members. They were deeded land at that time but there is no record of a structure that early. There was no regular pastor until December 1840 when Rev Drewery Hutchins was named pastor. In 1841, the church received a charter from the state and the current site was deeded to the church, but the church was not built until between 1846 and 1851. The current church was built on the same lot as the first church and is the third church on the lot. It was originally built about 1900. It had extensive renovations and additions of Sunday school rooms and a portico in 1966. The steeple was added in 1970.
