Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church in Hancock County
It was established in 1875. The first church was a log cabin on land owned by Mr. W.T. Knowles and was also used as a school, very common in those days. Brother Knowles was a faithful servant to the church, often conducting services when no minister was available. Normally, he led the prayer meetings on Wednesday nights holding a small brass lamp in his left hand, and the Bible in the other, he would read the lesson. After twelve years they outgrew the cabin and purchased land from Mrs. Matt A. Ferguson and the new church was completed in February 1888. There have been an addition, repairs and a steeple but the structure is the same as in 1888.
