It was organized in 1841 after two priests from Christ Church in Savannah began holding services on occasion since 1832. This sanctuary was completed in 1841 and it is the 6th oldest Episcopal Church in the state and oldest in the Atlanta Diocese. In November some of General Sherman's troops took refuge in the church. The burned pews for warmth and poured syrup in the organ. When they blew up the arsenal and magazine nearby, the blast damaged the roof and blew out the windows. The church survives to and serves it's congregation to this day.
