Built by Wilson Bird. (1787-1868) Bird's father William moved to Warren County before 1800 and operated a fairly large ironworks at the shoals of Ogeechee. Wilson took over the business in 1812 on his father's death. Wilson was more into agriculture however and owned several plantations in the the state and ran them successfully. He built this home in Sparta in 1834 as his main home. During the Civil War his son served and was wounded. Wilson helped his daughter-in-law run their plantation until his son returned home but sadly passed away the year before Wilson too passed.
