The Rossiter-Little House in Sparta
It is the oldest home in the city. Originally built as a fort in 1797, Dr.Timothy W Rossiter Purchased it in 1798 and used it as a home. Dr. Rossiter was a surgeon and Revolutionary War veteran from Connecticut. It was built on the highest point in the city at that time. Shortly after he purchased it, Rossiter converted it into a clapboard Salt Box style home common in his home state. The house was purchased by Elias Boyer in 1812 and then by the Little family from the 1830s until the late 20th century. The wings and porch were added before 1860. The remains of the log house foundation are still visible in the basement.
