Island Creek Baptist Church
It was founded in 1794 in what was then frontier land in western Hancock County. It still is well off the beaten path. At first they met in a local courthouse. At some point they also met in a schollhouse that was located across the road from where they are now. In 1842, they built the first structure on 1.75 acres they purchased where they currently reside. This church survived the civil war and after the war the congregation continued to grow. They tore down the first sanctuary in 1886 and built the current structure. The pews from when the church was built were used until 2016 and the church had no running water or bathrooms until 1996. The church is still very active today
