St. Mark's African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sparta

It was established in 1867 by ex-slaves who remained in the area after the Civil War. The current sanctuary was likely constructed in 1892 although there are some that say it was built in 1901. Either way it is still a beautiful and very active church. The full history is here,
