Gray United Methodist Church

It was founded in 1906 after the county seat had moved there from Clinton. The first sanctuary was dedicated in 1908 and the church was in the Oxford charge. On January 3rd 1915, minutes after the new presiding Elder had concluded a session of the yearly Oxford District conference, an overheated furnace started a fire that destroyed the building. The Baptist Church allowed the Methodists to hold services in the building while they built the new brick church, which is the one pictured here. At some point it was concreted or stucco'd over. There is a new sanctuary across the street but this one still stands.
