Vesta Mills Gainesville GA
In 1901 Vesta Mills of Charleston SC built a new mill and moved to Gainesville. The mill village was built behind the mill. They moved the cotton mill to Georgia because they wanted enough space to build the mill village to guarantee people would be on time to work (apparently an issue in Charleston). Other forgotten or soon to be forgotten things in here are the old Cantilever signal bridge directly above the auto in the picture. The signals have been replaced already. The old Gainesville Midland Railroad ran in the foreground. Those tracks were removed a few years ago.
