Another from Carroll County for Category #3.
If you’ve ever driven down Hwy 27 from Carrollton to LaGrange, you’ve undoubtedly seen this gem.
The RE Ringer General Merchandise Store is a staple along Martha Berry Hwy.
When construction began to widen the roadway, this little store was rescued and moved 150 ft back from its original location by the Walls family. It was built in 1927 and I haven’t found an exact date as to when it closed but Mr. Ringer died in 1957.
The Walls family fell in love with the building and purchased it - that sale included a house and cotton gin on the property - from Ringers’ daughter in 1991.
During my time in Carrollton, I’ve seen yard sales out front of the property and at one point the front entrance was boarded up. While the siding is falling apart and rusting, the infamous murals have been touched up.
