Georgia Military College

The old Statehouse in Milledgeville was authorized in 1805 and in 1807 it was completed enough that fifteen wagons carrying the treasury and public records were escorted by troops from Louisville. The building was expanded in 1828, 1834 and 1835. It was damaged on Sherman's march to Savannah. In 1868 the state legislature moved to Atlanta and the building became the county courthouse. In 1879 it was taken over by the Middle Georgia Military and Agricultural College, now known as Georgia Military College which still uses it.
