The Douglas Theater in Downtown Macon

It was founded in 1911 by Charles Henry Douglass, an African-American businessman who was a theater developer, knowledgeable about that entertainment business. His goal was to provide a venue for African-American performers since segregation barred them from most venues. It operated until the 1970's, then sat unused until some preservationists renovated and re-opened it for events.
